5 Easy Changes to Lessen Harm on the Environment (and Save Money!)

Source

1. Take shorter showers
This will save thousands of gallons of water per year and reduce the amount of energy used toward heating the water that is used.

2. Use public transportation
Uses less fuel and parking is a hassle anyway. Also, using the bus/metro etc. can be valuable reading time. Students (at my college at least) are required to pay for the bus pass so you might as well use it. Biking/walking to your destinations whenever possible is even better, burn fat not fuel!

3. Recycle/Upcycle
This one is important! Recycle materials such as plastics, metals, and paper that would otherwise end up in a landfill or pollute a natural habitat. Upcycling is an option too where materials are repurposed into useful things. Check out some upcycle ideas here:  http://www.pinterest.com/candacefox/upcycle-and-re-purposing/ and http://www.upcyclethat.com/ .

4. Invest in a reusable water bottle
Save money on buying bottled water and reduce plastic consumption. If you are concerned about water quality you could buy a water filter. Some bottles even have filters built in for on the go.

5. Use less heat in the cold months
Turn the thermostat down a couple degrees and layer up with sweaters, socks, snuggies, or people. This will save on energy and your heating bill.

I would love to hear your tips as well, feel free to leave comments!
